Story of Katyayani

An Asura named Mahishasura attacked the SwargaLoka, defeating Lord Indra and successfully ruling the SwargaLoka. Following their defeat on the battlefield, the Lords of SwargaLoka asked for help from Tridev. They informed the Tridev of Mahishasura’s capture of Lord Indra, Surya, Vayu, and others to rule over SwargaLoka, as he has been torturing the other Lords since they were forced to leave SwargaLoka. Tridev was angered as they listened to the entire situation, and as they expressed their anger, intense energy kept flowing from their mouths. This energy was then distributed throughout the ten directions.

Right then, a Goddess appeared in front of everyone. Goddess received Lord Shiva’s Trishul and Lord Vishnu’s Chakra. As this happened, other Lords gathered to give the Goddess all of their weapons. Lord Indra presented the Goddess with his moon and bell. Lord Surya gave on all of his energy and sword. Finally, she was given a lion to ride. Goddess ChandraGhanta left with all her weapons and power to start a fight with Mahishasura. Mahishasura was already scared of the Goddess’s face because it represented so much energy. He then gave the order to his Asuras to attack the Goddess. On the battlefield, all of the Asuras were trying to defeat the Goddess Durga.

Goddess Durga quickly won over each of them. She then killed Mahishasura and liberated all the Lords who had been imprisoned by Mahishasura, regaining the SwargaLoka for the Lords.
