The Houston Texas Temple is the second temple constructed in Texas and the 97th active temple for the Church. On September 30, 1997, it was first announced, and on June 13, 1998, there was a groundbreaking ceremony. The prayer was said by President Gordon B. Carter at the dedication ceremony on August 26, 2000.
Groundbreaking Ceremony of Houston Texas Temple
Elder Christopherson speaks of obedience and submission at the ceremony in Houston. He asked people to ask themselves what should be achieved in the next two years. In addition, the groundbreaking ceremony was attended by a gentleman by the name of Don Hand. He is the former land owner of the temple, who discovered the fine and hardworking architect to design the Mandir. During the 1980s when Houston’s economy went into recession or economic deline, Mr. Hand tried to die. He prayed to God to protect him and begged for his help while paying back in the future.
Later as a developer, Mr. Hand bought 2000 acres of land in the shutters of the temple site and painted a scene for his wife.
Finally, discussions started to build the temple and after so many years Mr. Hand remembered his promise and realized that the right time had come to complete it.
