Announcements and events from Apple
On September 7, Apple will hold a “Far Out” event where the company will announce the new iPhone 14 models and the Apple Watch Series 8, as well as make other announcements.
On Friday, September 9, preorders for new iPhones and Apple Watches could start. And the launch can be expected on Friday, September 16.
The event looks like it’s going to focus on the new iPhone 14 models, and expectations are as follows: a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 pro max; a 6.1-inch iPhone 14; and a 6.7-inch iPhone max, which is the base model with a larger display. It looks like there won’t be a 5.4-inch iPhone mini this year with Apple, instead opting for larger devices.
The iPhone 14 pro models will get a pill shape and a hole punch cut out that replaces the notch, an a16 chip, and a 48-megapixel camera, among other improvements. There were a few people that didn’t like the notch design that Apple was extremely stubborn about, so it’s good news for them that it will remove it.
The notch will also remain the same as it was on the iPhone 13 series, further giving incentive to customers to purchase the pro version of the 14 to get the full experience.
The device’s sensor has one slash 1.3 inches in width. It is a 21.2 percent increase over the one slash 1.65-inch sensor width of the wide camera of the iPhone 13 pro and pro max. This increase in sensor size requires a larger lens to capture more light, leading to a noticeably larger rear camera array. Naturally, with the increase in the megapixel numbers, we’re finally going to be able to see 8K video on the new iPhone 14.
Improvements and Features in iPhone 14
However, the base 14 versions aren’t getting any of the expected improvements. They’ll still have the previous a15 chip and the classic 12-megapixel camera, but you can count on new colors and updated ultra-wide lenses, faster 5G, and wi-fi 6e.

AR VR headset Apple is likely to limit pro motion technology to the iPhone 14 pro models. A decision that displays analyst Ross Young attributes to a lack of available displays. Young has stated that he believes that 120-hertz refresh rates will remain an iPhone 14 pro feature and that always-on display technology will introduce as an iPhone 14 pro and pro max exclusive.
Hands-free controls
In addition to physical buttons, the iPhone 14 also comes with a built-in voice recognition feature. It lets you control the device using just your voice. You can use it to make calls, send messages, play music, and more.
Wireless Charging
You won’t have to search for an outlet to charge your phone! The iPhone 14 charges wirelessly using a special inductive charging mat that you place under your coffee table, desk, or anywhere else in your home. Every iPhone comes bundled with a special wireless adapter that lets you charge your iPhone with any Qi-compatible smartphone.
Furthermore, Apple has also collaborated with an organization that will be able to offer its customers an alternative power source in case their battery is running low.
Preorders for the iPhone 14 will open soon, and you can purchase it from major retailers across the country.
One last thing
There have been rumors that Apple is aiming to remove the lightning port from the iPhone for a portless design with charging done over MagSafe. But it is unclear if that technology will be introduced with the upcoming iPhone models. At least some of the new iPhones coming out will continue to feature a lightning port.
