What does Heaven look like- Have you ever thought of this? I did. Heaven, the place where everyone wants to go after life. If you ever think about heaven, the first thing that comes to your mind will be white clouds, a blue sky, and a big luxurious gate made up of gold from which you will enter and meet your friends and family along with the one who is owning this world, The God.
We all are able to imagine these things because we have seen this in films. These films play important roles because these elements give uniqueness to our thoughts. This type of thought generation leads to the thoughts that we imagine for our afterlife.
Afterlife existence thought had come from various religions and there is called it as paradise and also it varies from different culture or mythologies. Every point of view and mindset about the afterlife in heaven also vary.
No eye has seen and obviously, no one can imagine what our dear God has in store for us in heaven. But in the bible, many facts make us believe in the existence of Heaven.
Heaven has attracted the imaginations of many Christians for thousands of years. But many of them now don’t know what its existence means in the bible about heaven. Many questions come to mind when we think about what does heaven look like, and what we will do in heaven.
1. The New Jerusalem will be on this Earth
The book of the bible REVELATION is mainly written in a poetic form that describes a prophet’s symbolic dreams and vision that concerns current or future events related to the heavenly perspective. The writer is John and to connect with the emotions he uses poetic language and gives the perspective of ‘The New Heaven and the New Earth.’
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, For the first heaven and the first earth had Passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, Coming down out of heaven from God, Prepared as a bride adorned for her husband And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people."
The main idea of this poetic stanza means that the separation between heaven and earth. God and his church will no longer exist. They become the ones where God lives among their people. John, the writer, while he was separated on the Isle of Patmos, received a vision of Heaven as the new Jerusalem. God has chosen this earth as the main headquarter of his eternal kingdom. The place that was degraded by sin and filled with death, pain, and corruption. It is recreated and transformed by the god for the people that came to heaven by doing good deeds.
On that day the Lord their God will save them, As the flock of his people; For like the jewels of a crown They shall shine on his land.
The new earth will be a witness to God’s redeeming power and the who will come here will be like the shining jewels of his crown.
2. The Heaven's foundations will have all the colors of Rainbow
There are 12 foundations of the New Jerusalem and every foundation is symbolized by a jewel which includes jasper, sapphire, agate, emerald, onyx, carnelian, chrysolite, beryl, topaz, chrysoprase, jacinth, and amethyst.
Recently scientists have discovered that these 12 gems indicate the colors of the rainbow which symbolizes pure light. Also, the bible, not only indicates the gems but also describes the streets, gates, and walls of the new Jerusalem. In this, the pure light is a symbol that truly confirms ‘What does Heaven actually look like.’
The streets of this city are made of pure gold, like transparent glass.
Also, this heavenly city has pearl gates. The twelve gates were twelve pearls.
And the twelve gates were the twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl…
These pearly gates are embedded into a colossal wall. These walls are 216 feet high and made up of Solid jasper.
He also measures its wall, 144 cubits by human measurement… The wall was built of jasper….
The size of Heaven is also shocking. The city will be of square shape and will have a circumference around of 1500 miles, almost the size of Montana state. There will be enough rooms for the people of God to assemble there.
The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth
And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs
3. The tree of life will give healing to the Nations
In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, Was the tree of the life, which bore twelve fruits, Each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations
The tree of life was in the Garden of Eden.
And out of the ground made the Lord God grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, And good for the food: the tree of life is also in the midst of the garden.
Adam and Eve are the ones that were expelled from the Garden of Eden after their bad deeds. After they were not able to eat from the tree of life and live forever under the curse.
So he drove out of the man, and he placed cherubim at the east of the garden Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
Now this tree of life is in the middle of heaven and produces a different fruit each month of the year. Its leaves have some healing properties that will heal your life with its sustainment.
4. In heaven, there will be no death and sin again
And god shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Satan brought sin on the earth when he fall from heaven. According to the bible, Sin is breaking the laws of God that taught us to do good deeds. God is the one who kill satan, basically, satan was the angel who went against god and was thrown out of heaven afterward. God is the one who destroyed satan which means if you do sin then definitely you won’t be able to go to heaven after death. This is definitely the fear of god and we will not name this as the love for god in case you are not doing good deeds.
God has given the human full will to choose their path whether it’s sin or they want to do good deeds to get heaven in return.
But nothing unclean will enter it, Nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, But only those who are written in the lamb’s book of life.
5. We will have perfect, indestructible bodies
In the moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last of trump: for the trumpet shall sound, And the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed, For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
In the afterlife, there is no more death, you don’t have to take birth again. That means you never get old or sick as you are in heaven. There will be happiness in heaven as everyone will have good health. No one will have the fear to face death again. They will be happy under the kingdom of God.
6. We will be able to recognize our loved ones
Yes, we will be able to meet each other in heaven. And we will spend the eternity of our lie with our loved ones. Also, we have real bodies in heaven.
…..will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body…
So there will be the real people in heaven from which we can talk and in the midst of clouds, people will be able to just spend time with their loved ones.
7. There are animals there in the heaven
The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, And the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them.
Humans and animals will be able to live in peace together. There will be no fear and pain to live a peaceful life together. It is meant to happen as it is in our destiny to live together.
8. We will build homes and live there
There is a misbelief because our set thoughts about heaven that we have to just fly around all the time and clouds will be the home for us but it’s not true. There will be real activities there which we have to do and it will be rewarding also. According to our work, we will get the reward.
And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; And they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruits of them…. And mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands
Imagine you are making your own home in heaven. This is the place where you can build according to you. Heaven is also built for the people.
In my father’s house are many mansions if it were not so, I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you
I seriously don’t know what does heaven seriously look like and how things will happen there but one thing I know is that if we do good deeds and don’t break God’s law and don’t do sins then we will definitely have the chance to make it to heaven. The most important thing is that there God will be with us. No matter what happens but we know that we are in safe hands there. I know it will not be that easy to just give the opinion of what it looks like but through the bible, we can just confirm the existence of Heaven that how it will look like, and what will happen there. So, there are many things that are mentioned in the bible but it is beyond our imagination.
